Rachana Sharma

Master’s Thesis student

Ms. Rachana Sharma is an Assistant Professor at Tribhuvan University, currently teaching Bachelor of Pharmacy students at JFIHS/LACHS, a TU-affiliated college in Nepal. She completed both her Bachelor and Master degrees in Pharmacy from Kathmandu University, ranking first in her Master’s batch (2019- 2022). Prior to her academic career, she gained experience in Nepal's pharmaceutical industries, working in R&D as well as production of pharmaceutical products. Her research journey at RIBB began as a thesis student during her TWAS funded Master’s thesis under the supervision of Dr. Neha Shrestha. Her research interests include advanced drug delivery systems, nanoparticles, microencapsulation and formulation development. She has worked on cell line-based studies and supervised student projects on various novel drug delivery approaches.

  • Ms. Rachana Sharma has gained research expertise in various areas of pharmaceutical science through involvement in academic projects and by supervising student research. Her research expertise includes:
  • Formulation and evaluation of modified-release drug delivery systems, including bilayer tablets, oral films, transdermal patches, and microbeads.
  • In vitro characterization of Caco-2 cell line monoculture models for predicting intestinal drug permeability and supporting biopharmaceutical classification.
  • Extraction, phytochemical screening and evaluation of antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of natural sources.
  • Nanoparticle-based drug delivery research, including green synthesis of silver nanoparticles from plant extract and tripeptide-loaded nanoparticles formulation.
