2nd ICBB - 2018, Dhulikhel, Nepal
About the Conference:
The 2nd International Conference on Bioscience and Biotechnology (ICBB-2018) was jointly organized by Research Institute for Bioscience Biotechnology (RIBB) and Institute for Molecular Medicine (FIMM) was successfully concluded on February 20th, 2018. Along with attendees from Nepal, the conference saw international delegates from Finland, Sweden, Denmark, South Korea and India. There were four thematic sessions encompassing 23 scientific talks and 38 poster presentations. The major focal areas covered during the conference were biobanking, translational cancer research, precision medicine, digital health and natural products.
The conference was inaugurated by Prof. Parashar Prasad Koirala, chairman of University Grants Commission, Nepal and was attended by the Finnish ambassador for Nepal, H. E. Jorma Suvanto. There were 180 attendees representing several private, governmental organizations as well as international institutes. The conference intended to make a key influence in the aspects of personalized medicine and concluded with a gratifying promise for Nepali people.
There were representatives from Research Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology (RIBB), Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM), Kathmandu University (KU), Institute of Medicine (IOM) Tribhuvan University, Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), Nepal Cancer Hospital and Research Center (NCHRC), Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC), Dhulikhel Hospital and various national research institutes. Vice - Chancellors of KU, Prof. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, Vice - Chancellors of NAST, Prof. Jiba Raj Pokhrel, Former minister of science and technology, Mr. Ganesh Shah, Chairman of NHRC, Dr. Anjani Jha and Chairman of NCHRC Dr. Sudip Shrestha gave opening remarks in inauguration ceremony of the program. The four days long conference concluded by highlighting the requirement of scientific as well as research prospects in Nepal.
The conference was co-organized by the Department of Biotechnology, Kathmandu University (KU), the Department of Biochemistry, Institute of Medicine (IOM), Tribuvan University and Dhulikhel Hospital. It was supported by FinCEAL, UNIPID, Deerwalk Institute of Technology (DWIT), Center for Health Disease Studies – Nepal (CHDS), and Kathmandu Institute of Applied Sciences (KIAS), Biotechnology Society of Nepal (BSN).
