Nepal is a developing country rich in nature and biodiversity and thriving to be self-sufficient. The country opens it’s armswhole-heartedly to collaborative scientific projects. Being a third world country, science and technology are still at early stage in Nepal. Having said that, Nepal has taken steps toward pushing science and technology research and application for the benefits of its citizens. In particular, biomedical research in the field of infectious diseases is sprouting slowly, with foreign collaborations, inside the country. Beside this, different national epidemiological studies of diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular disease and mental health disorders are being carried out by National Health Research Council, Nepal. There are several governmental and private research institutes, mainly the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), Kathmandu University (KU), Research Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology (RIBB), Dhulikhel Hospital, Nepal Cancer Hospital, Patan Academy of Health Science and Interpid Nepal, that are working in different fields of life science and bioscience, such as Pharmaceutical Biology, Biomedical Science, Natural Product Chemistry, Cancer Biology, Biomaterial and Animal Biotechnology.
Field: Molecular Medicine, Computational Biology, Biotechnology
1. Educating and inspiring students, researchers, clinicians, university and governmental personnel in biomedical research and cutting edge technology development in Nepal.
2. Exploring possibilities to develop a biobank and performing joint biomedical research between Finnish and Nepali research institutes, including the possibilities of using natural products in oncological studies.
3. Investigating collaboration opportunities between Kathmandu University and University of Helsinki covering different aspects, for instance joint doctoral programs and collaborative research projects.
